The Acousticians Behind the Reconstruction of Notre Dame Cathedral
In 2019, a fire broke out at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Brian Katz soon made a surprising discovery – he held the only acoustic measurements of the building that he had previously captured a few years before. Sarabeth Mullins, an AVIXA member, joined Brian as a PhD student and their research was used to inform the reconstruction of the cathedral. Their data is now being repurposed as a short film that's being shown in theaters and there are plans to use it in planetariums and Virtual Reality soon.
