FAIRFAX, VA — May 2, 2016 — InfoComm International® posthumously awards its 2016 Women in AV Award to Rose L. Shure, former Chairman of Shure Inc., for her longstanding commitment to industry education and product innovation. Mrs. Shure will be recognized in an awards ceremony preceding the keynote address at InfoComm 2016 in Las Vegas, held June 4-10.
InfoComm's Women in AV Award honors women who have achieved rewarding and successful careers in the audiovisual industry and who have served as models for women and technology professionals throughout pro AV.
"Rose Shure was more than a leader and an industry icon. She was a dedicated supporter of causes far beyond AV," said David Labuskes, CTS®, RCDD, Executive Director and CEO, InfoComm International. "Shure employees will tell you she always had their best interests at heart, and she worked hard to uphold the company's high standards — whether it was in the quality of the products they produced or their ethical responsibility to customers and their community. InfoComm is proud to recognize Rose Shure for her more than 60 years in AV and for the impact she made throughout the Chicagoland area."
Mrs. Shure was elected Chairman after her husband, company founder S. N. Shure, passed away in 1995. In doing so, she ensured that the company, which had grown from a small manufacturer of microphones and phonograph cartridges to a global leader in audio electronics, would remain privately held and dedicated to a core set of values. She joined Shure Brothers, as it was known then, in 1949. In the decades since, iconic entertainers, politicians, orators and other personalities brandished Shure microphones as they shaped history. Rose Shure remained active in the company until her death, recently initiating research into applications of nanotechnology with Northwestern University and always investing substantially in R&D and industry education.
As Shure enjoyed great success, Rose Shure remained a generous supporter of many cultural, philanthropic and educational organizations, including AmeriCares, Doctors Without Borders, the Red Cross, UNICEF and United Way. At home, Shure was also a benefactor of the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Field Museum of Natural History, among others.
Each year, InfoComm International recognizes outstanding AV professionals for their contributions, leadership and commitment to excellence. In 2016, the InfoComm Awards Committee, a panel of volunteers, received nominations from across the AV industry and named winners for the Mackey Barron Distinguished Achievement, Adele De Berri Pioneers of AV, CTS Holder of the Year, Educator of the Year, Women in AV and Young AV Professionals Awards. The Harald Thiel Volunteer of the Year Award is bestowed by InfoComm staff.
