CTS 1 establishes the foundational knowledge required for aspiring AV professionals. It is the first course in a two-course series that is designed to prepare learners with the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities that are essential to the CTS Exam.

Who should take this course:
Professionals who:
- Plan to take the CTS® Exam within the next few years
- Work as AV technicians or in an adjacent position
- Coordinate and collaborate with AV professionals and wish to deepen their knowledge of AV systems, technology, and the industry itself
Prerequisites:
None
Course features:
- Explain the scope and significance of the AV industry and describe the role of standards within it.
- Explain the fundamental scientific principles that underpin the AV industry, including sound, light, and electricity.
- Identify the components of audio and video systems for various AV setups.
- Describe the role of networking in AV systems.
- Describe the purpose and components of control systems in AV technology.
- Identify the different roles within the AV industry, fundamentals or AV project management, and effective communication skills.
It is highly recommended that upon completion of this course learners proceed to the next course in the series: CTS 2. Completion of this course in no way guarantees participants will pass the CTS exam, nor will this program cover all the topics listed in the exam content outline. By registering for this course, you are not signing up for the CTS exam. The CTS exam must be applied for, paid for, and then scheduled separately at a Pearson Vue testing center. Candidates should review the CTS candidate handbook to learn more about the CTS Exam.
Instructors

Elizabeth Burnham is a multifaceted educator who brings a wealth of experience and passion to her professional roles. As the Training & QA/QC Coordinator at Pershing Technologies, Elizabeth leverages her extensive expertise to oversee training programs and initiatives. Her commitment to fostering knowledge and precision empowers both team members and clients alike.
In addition to her technical work, Elizabeth serves asan Adjunct Faculty member at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, contributing to the development of emerging artists and Audio professionals.

Jeremy has been delivering quality integrated media technology solutions for more than 20 years. He began his career installing enterprise class network and audiovisual systems, progressing to the design and project management of a wide variety of technology enabled facilities. Jeremy has successfully led diverse teams on many large-scale and complex design and installation projects globally. Driven by quality and the creative application of new technologies, Jeremy thrives on developing unique and innovative solutions for his customers. He has worked on a broad range of project types including broadcast, production, and communications for higher education, corporate, healthcare, and hospitality clients.
Jeremy serves on the Board of Directors for PSNI Global Alliance. As a lifelong learner, Jeremy is passionate about giving back through education and volunteers as an adjunct faculty instructor for Avixa as well as AQAV.
Jeremy is the recipient of the Avixa 2019 Educator of the Year, AQAV 2017 Quality Champion Award, and was recognized in the 2014 edition of the Commercial Integrators Top 40 under 40 Influencers.
