• Patrick has worked with audio and video signals for 16 years, starting as a recording studio intern and a hotel AV technician.
• He travelled through live corporate events, live concerts and touring, as an audio systems engineer, before he moved to deploying integrated AV systems.
• After installing new systems for various clients over several years, he eventually moved over to the ‘client side’, aka taking care of one client (Zillow)’s AV deployments.
• This allowed for a deeper dive into software and network engineering, in an attempt to build tools that can maintain lean AV deployments, robust observability, and high availability.
• Seeing how internal technical infrastructure is maintained at a large software enterprise revealed how many tools and capabilities exist in software and networking that are yet to be developed in enterprise AV.
• Patrick aims to apply modern principles of site reliability and devops into AV deployments and enjoys building custom tools to fill the gaps along the way.
