Today's AV technology managers are responsible for overseeing numerous meeting spaces, and one of their biggest challenges is that users are often aware of meeting room issues before they are. This lack of real-time insight into meeting spaces is a significant pain point. The current industry offerings lack of multi-vendor support within a single platform, leading to operational silos; provide limited to surface-level data collection, hindering effective data mining and analysis; and suffer from the absence of programmable collection methods restricts the potential for enhanced data collection. To address these issues effectively, technology managers must become well-versed in monitoring best practices, stay updated on industry trends, and understand the current landscape of monitoring tools.

    Patrick Gilligan
    Client AV Deployment
    Zillow

Patrick has worked with audio and video signals for 16 years, starting as a recording studio intern and a hotel AV technician. He travelled through live corporate events, live concerts and touring, as an audio systems engineer, before he moved to deploying integrated AV systems. After installing new systems for various clients over several years, he eventually moved over to the ‘client side’, aka taking care of one client (Zillow)’s AV deployments. This allowed for a deeper dive into software and network engineering, in an attempt to build tools that can maintain lean AV deployments, robust observability, and high availability.

Seeing how internal technical infrastructure is maintained at a large software enterprise revealed how many tools and capabilities exist in software and networking that are yet to be developed in enterprise AV. Patrick aims to apply modern principles of site reliability and devlops into AV deployments and enjoys building custom tools to fill the gaps along the way.
