CTS 2: Applied AV and AV Project Process (Previously CTS Prep): In-Person Training at InfoComm 2025

CTS 2 can help ease your nerves and boost your confidence before you take the CTS® exam. This course is a natural continuation of CTS 1; through this course, you will deepen your understanding of the core competencies tested in the CTS exam. This will continue and expand the knowledge base learned in CTS 1 by adding new focus areas and applying learned skills and deepening understanding of key concepts.

Who should take this course:

Professionals who:

  • Plan to take the CTS® Exam in the near future
  • Work as AV technicians or in an adjacent position 
  • Coordinate and collaborate with AV professionals and wish to deepen their knowledge of AV systems, technology, and the industry itself 
  • Wish to deepen and expand their understanding of concepts learned in CTS 1 

Prerequisites:

Professionals who are looking to earn their CTS and:

-Have audiovisual experience

Or have taken the following prerequisite:

-CTS 1: AV Technology (Previously Essentials of AV Technology)

Course features:

This is a 24-hour course that may be taught virtually or in person. Course objectives include: 

  • Understand AVIXA's mission, role, and industry contributions.
  • Comprehend AV industry standards and their application in ensuring quality and reliability.
  • Explore benefits and resources of AVIXA membership for professional growth and engagement.
  • Develop proficiency in mathematical tools such as ratios, logarithmic functions, and scientific calculators.
  • Gain insight into technical concepts relevant to AV projects and systems.
  • Master skills in customer information gathering, needs analysis, site survey, and program report creation.
  • Expertise in interpreting architectural drawings and understanding design phases in AV projects.
  • Learn about sound alteration, projection system factors, screen selection, and aspect ratio knowledge.
  • Understand project management principles and their application in AV projects.
  • Acquire skills in AV system installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance.
  • Develop proficiency in troubleshooting techniques and logical problem-solving approaches for AV systems. 

Someone who has taken CTS 1 and 2 might be prepared to sit the exam, but it is strongly recommended people take Quick Prep: Certification Overview and Study Drills.

Jim Spencer is a key member of Legrand AV’s Learning Experience team, where he plays a vital role in developing training programs and curricula tailored for the AV industry. Jim brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles at CDW’s audiovisual practice and as a long-time designer at the University of Notre Dame. Before that, he honed his skills working with a local integrator. Jim holds AVIXA’s CTS-D and CTS-I accredited certifications, along with numerous other certifications and honors from leading manufacturers and industry organizations, reflecting his broad expertise and commitment to professional excellence.
