AV is about helping people communicate an idea effectively. Whether it's cave drawings thousands of years ago or a wedding video on Twitter today, AV tools and technology are used to help people relate to and understand one another. That's the goal. As a CTS professional you're going to design and install AV systems that are unique to the client's needs. For example, the client might request that you design an AV system for projecting images in a boardroom that seats 20 people. You want to be sure that all twenty people can see the projected images comfortably. How can you know, before the system is installed, that its eventual users will be able to read onscreen text and make out details in the images? Understanding viewing parameters and performing the related calculations will help you achieve these goals.
Installing visual systems is extremely important for the CTS professional. This requires that you be able to determine any environmental issues that will impact the audience's ability to clearly see the presentation. How well images can be viewed within a room is affected by a number of factors including the viewing distance, viewing angle, and aspect ratio. Through calculations, you will be able to create an AV space that provides an optimal viewing experience for its audience.
