Live Event Producer

A Live Event Producer plans and manages all of the production elements of a live event. Live events installations are usually temporary, and the live events producer is responsible for crucial elements such as lighting, sound, staging, crewing, and can even include booking on-stage talent. Live Event Producers could work for trade shows or conferences, touring performers or campaigns, or for a company that puts on neighborhood street fairs, festivals, and private parties, or anywhere else people gather for a shared experience.

While some companies are large enough to provide all of these services themselves, they often hire and coordinate various subcontractors to provide services. Live events producers may also work with creative design and marketing teams to design the look and feel of the event, and to help promote and to stage the event.

Sometimes Live Event Producers manage Rental and Staging Companies that supply pro-AV equipment to customers who need a temporary installation. Staging goes beyond equipment rental to include the system design, integration, operation and service of temporary systems.

Live Events Producers have a working knowledge of event technology, event venues, project management and finance. They may work freelance or as part of a larger agency. They typically understand and apply financial management and accounting skills including contract negotiation, payroll management and performance rights and copyrights. It is the live events producer’s responsibility to react quickly and make final decisions regarding unexpected challenges and to craft creative solutions to often time sensitive problems. This role requires a cool head, strong communication, and problem solving skills.
