Basic Decision Making (BDM) Calculations

Display Image Size for 2D Content in Audiovisual Systems (ANSI/INFOCOMM V202.01:2016)

To use this calculator, identify the column that contains the variable for which you are solving: farthest viewer, minimum image height, or minimum %element height. Then, working up and down, fill in the white, unshaded cells in that column to find your answer. 

Note:

  • Standard eye level and aspect ratio must be identified or your closest viewer results will be incorrect. If you don’t have a defined standard eye level for your project, try using 1200mm (48") for seated viewers and 1500mm (62") for standing viewers.
  • Do NOT mix units. The calculations are unit consistent. (Do not mix feet and inches, millimeters and meters.)
  • Enter aspect ratio as a decimal. For instance, 16:9 equals 1.78, 4:3 equals 1.33.
  • Error messages are included to warn you of numeric inconsistencies you might produce.
