Role of a Standard Development Task Group Member

The time commitment for task group participation will vary, but you can expect to spend a minimum of two hours per month. Additional time may be set aside for additional work efforts throughout the project.

Expectations

As a valued member of this group, AVIXA expects that you will:

  • Support the task group and moderator to achieve milestones by completing tasks assigned to you
  • Actively participate in two meetings per month (webconference or other), typically one hour per meeting
  • Actively participate in a face-to-face meeting at the outset of the project, typically two days in a U.S. location
  • Attend other potential face-to-face meetings as required throughout the duration of the development (typically one additional meeting per two-year period)
  • Participate and contribute to the document development by writing or providing references, reviewing documents, or researching
  • Read and review all meeting notes, references, and draft documentation, using the document development workspace
  • Vote on milestones of document development
  • Assist in formulating the responses to public comments
  • Sign and agree to AVIXA's Volunteer Agreement, Subject Matter Expert Agreement, AVIXA Anti-trust statement, and patent policies
  • Assist in practical application of the standard being developed
  • Bring applied prior knowledge of subject matter

Additional Responsibilities

You may be asked to:

  • Research specific topics as required
  • Assist in the development of references
  • Provide support for hypothesis testing (materials, venue, resources)
  • Participate in additional face-to-face writing or testing sessions
  • Assist in classes, workshops, or seminars representing AVIXA standards
  • Write specific sections of the draft standard
  • Make phone calls to other task group participants
  • Attend Standards Plenary Session at the InfoComm US show or ISE

Role of a Standard Development Task Group Moderator

Standards

The task group moderator takes the primary leadership role in the management and development of the task group and standard development. The time commitment for participation will vary, but you can expect to spend a minimum of 4-8 hours per month. Additional time may be set aside for additional work efforts throughout the project. The task group moderator works closely with AVIXA Standards staff.

Expectations

As a valued member of this group, AVIXA expects that you will:

  • Lead two meetings per month (web conference or other), typically one to one and a half hours per meeting
  • Be prepared for each meeting
  • Manage the meeting agendas
  • Lead the task group to develop and achieve milestones
  • Promptly edit/approve meeting notes
  • Edit/revise/verify the scope (Terms of Reference) assigned to the task group
  • Manage the activities of the group to achieve that scope
  • Lead at least one face-to-face meeting at the outset of the project, typically two days in a U.S. location
  • Lead any other required face-to-face meetings of the group
  • Oversee the document development process
  • Read and review draft documentation
  • Develop and vote on document development milestones
  • Meet with Steering Committee to present Committee Draft (CD) for approval vote
  • Work with AVIXA staff to lead the efforts to respond to public comments
  • Assist in the testing phase management of standard development
  • Attend Standards Steering Committee meetings (web conference or other) as needed to provide task group activity updates
  • Sign and agree to AVIXA's Volunteer Agreement, Subject Matter Expert Agreement, AVIXA's Anti-trust statement, and patent policies
  • Nurture and encourage task group members to participate
  • Assist AVIXA staff and Steering Committee with task group member management

Additional Responsibilities

You may be asked to:

  • Participate in podcast, webinars, and presentations representing the task group work and standard topic
  • Research specific topics as required
  • Assist in the development of references
  • Assist in practical application of the standard being developed (test)
  • Participate in additional face-to-face writing or testing sessions
  • Assist in classes, workshops, or seminars representing AVIXA standards
  • Write specific sections of the draft
  • Attend Standards Plenary Session at the InfoComm US show or ISE
